About the museum

The Malta Classic Car Museum grew out of the passion of Carol Galea, a car enthusiast who started by building and customising his own cars for hill-climb races in Malta. His hobby turned into a collection of classic cars that he described as a living and growing collection spanning more than 50 years of motor manufacturing, and he founded the museum in Qawra to inform and entertain visitors about the history of the motor industry. After his death in 2021 his son Mark Galea and his daughter Mandy Buhagiar became co-directors.

The museum covers about 3,000 square metres on two floors, reached by stairs and a lift from the reception. The cars have been restored to pristine condition, and the collection ranges from a Jaguar E-Type, a Mercedes 190SL and Alfa Romeo models to a Lotus and many others. Information boards give dates, variants, production runs and the story of how some cars came into the collection.

To set the scene the museum is furnished with antiques and memorabilia from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, such as gramophones, antique television sets, jukeboxes and period fashion. There are screens showing programmes on motoring, two cinemas and a gift shop, and the Dolce Sicilia cafeteria stands next to the reception.
