About the museum
The Comité national des Traditions monégasques was founded in 1924 by representatives of old local families, with the aim of preserving Monegasque identity, including its language and material heritage. The museum was inaugurated in 1974 by Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace in a committee building on the Rock.
On three levels, the collections present everyday objects, ceramics, paintings, furniture and costumes, as well as uniforms, weapons and archive documents. Part of the display is devoted to religious and popular traditions, Monegasque ceramics and military life.
The current route, titled “Carrugi d’a Roca – The Streets of the Rock”, leads through the emblematic lanes of the Rock, from the heritage of the original fortified village to the presence of the Monegasque language and the personalities who left their mark on the place. On the first floor, the visit continues with religious and popular traditions, Monegasque ceramics and a screening room.
