About the museum

The Erfgoedcentrum is part of the Rozet, a multifunctional building in the centre of Arnhem that opened in 2013 and was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architecten. Alongside the library and course offerings, a local heritage centre has been set up on the lower floor, where the historical collection of the former Historisch Museum Arnhem found a new home. That museum had come into being in 1996 through the division of the Gemeentemuseum Arnhem and closed in early 2012; its holdings were transferred to the new heritage centre.

Today the Erfgoedcentrum tells the history of Arnhem and its surroundings in twelve themes: with exhibited objects, films, audio recordings and in-depth sources. The presentation follows the periods of Dutch history and highlights the most important events in Arnhem. On view are, for example, a building component of the Roman fort Meinerswijk next to a jersey of the football club Vitesse. The objects come from the collections of Museum Arnhem and the Gelderland Bibliotheek, which serves as a research library with books, journals, manuscripts and early printed works on Gelderland.

The Erfgoedcentrum also includes the ArcheoHotspot Arnhem, which shows archaeological finds from the city (a "Find of the Month" is presented every month), and the city panorama on the fifth floor with a roof terrace and wide views over the city. Admission is free; lectures, workshops, walks and family activities take place regularly.
