About the museum

The NZH Vervoer Museum in Haarlem is a foundation that preserves moving and static transport heritage and is run entirely by volunteers. It came into being in 1981, when the regional transport company Noord Zuid Hollandse Vervoer Maatschappij (NZH) turned 100 and the idea of a company museum arose. It later became a transport museum devoted to the urban and regional transport operated in the north-west of the Netherlands since 1878, with the exception of the city services of Amsterdam and The Hague.

At first the museum was housed on the NZH garage site on the Leidsevaart in Haarlem. When that site was sold for housing, it moved in 2015 to its current hall on the A. Hofmanweg in the Waarderpolder industrial estate.

Today it holds four trams, the oldest from 1896, and eleven buses that once ran for the NZH or other transport companies in the region. The trams are regarded as cultural heritage; visitors may board and take a seat. Most of the buses are roadworthy and are regularly used for trips with the public. In the museum's own workshop, vehicles are maintained and restored, such as a railcar from 1904 or a DAF coach from 1972, which is considered the only surviving bus of the first all-Dutch series. A permanent exhibition and themed shows that change every year complement the vehicles.
