About the museum
The sculptor Jits Bakker (1937–2014) from De Bilt worked for over fifty years in his studio "de kooi" and created commissions for clients in the Netherlands and abroad. His monumental sculptures, which hold their own both in nature and in the city, stand in the sculpture park on the Beerschoten estate in the Stichtse Lustwarande east of Utrecht.
The museum is owned by the Province of Utrecht and is freely accessible every day from sunrise to sunset. The park holds 31 sculptures in bronze, marble and granite; motifs often come from Greek mythology, such as Icarus, Aphrodite and Adonis, alongside scenes of everyday life such as "Herinneringen" and "Het Debat".
The Jits Bakker Collectie foundation makes the work accessible and maintains the artworks. It offers group tours of the park, combined with a visit to the studio "de kooi" and the neighbouring Beeldenlabyrinth; on Open Monument Days it also opens the studio to all visitors. The park also contains the Koetshuis Beerschoten with catering and information about the estate.
