Rotterdams Openbaar Vervoer Museum

Volunteer-run public transport museum in the Hillegersberg tram depot with around 60 historic trams, buses and metro cars.

Opening hoursAdmission €10

About the museum

The Rotterdam public transport museum goes back to the RoMeO foundation, established in 1997 to preserve and share the heritage of public transport in Rotterdam. It is housed in the depot on the Kootsekade in the Hillegersberg district, a tram depot dating from 1923 that now serves as the museum hall.

The collection comprises around 60 trams, about 20 buses and two metro cars that ran in Rotterdam in various eras; the oldest vehicle dates from 1905. There are also photographs, tickets and other documents, which can be searched in a digital collection.

Everything is run by more than 150 volunteers. They maintain the vehicles, operate the historic museum line and hire out vehicles for celebrations and outings. The hall is open to visitors only on a few Saturdays a year; rides on historic trams and buses to the museum are then included in the admission. On City Tour line 10, museum trams also run through the city centre.
