About the museum
Bokn bygdemuseum is housed in the old youth house at Håland in Vestre Bokn. The building is from 1909 and tells part of the story of the youth and temperance association on Bokn. The museum is arranged by theme and shows more than 4,000 objects from the period between 1850 and 1950.
With carefully furnished bedrooms, a parlour (stue) and a kitchen, visitors get an insight into the old home life on the island. Separate departments for farming and fishing show tools and equipment from traditional working life, and the building also houses a shoemaker's workshop and a schoolroom.
The museum is open to the public every Sunday in summer, and Bokn historielag (the local history society) is the host. Both the museum building at Håland and the farmyard at Laupland can otherwise be visited by arrangement. The museum is part of Haugalandmuseet.
