About the museum
The International Children's Art Museum in Oslo has been housed in a villa in Lille Frøens vei since 1986. The museum was started by Norsk Stiftelse for Barnas Historie, Kunst og Kultur (the Norwegian foundation for children's history, art and culture) in cooperation with SOS Children's Villages and Dr. Hermann Gmeiner's Fund. Its purpose is to spread respect for children's art and culture and to promote children's rights.
The collection comprises more than 100,000 artworks made by children and young people aged between 2 and 18 from over 180 countries, and is considered one of very few such collections in the world. The museum also has a doll collection and has shown exhibitions including children's art from Ukraine and toys made from recycled materials.
The museum has not operated normally since the turn of the year 2025/2026, after state operating support ceased.
