About the museum
Sporveismuseet Vognhall 5 is located on Gardeveien in Majorstuen, Oslo, and is run by volunteers from Lokaltrafikkhistorisk forening (the Local Transport History Association), in cooperation with Ruter. The association was founded on 19 April 1966, when the tram and trolleybus were disappearing from the city streets, and it started with two motor carriages and a trailer.
The museum shows a selection of preserved tram carriages, metro carriages and buses that represent the public transport history of Oslo and Akershus. Many of the carriages can be entered, and text panels explain the history of each vehicle. The exhibition also includes posters, videos, a ticket exhibition and various other objects.
The museum also has a significant collection of photographs and cultural history objects, which are being digitised continuously and published on Digitalt Museum. The association also maintains vehicles and runs heritage trams and heritage buses.
