Fornebuhistorisk museum

About the museum

Fornebuhistorisk museum is run by Fornebuhistorisk forening (Fornebu Historical Society) and is housed under the old control tower at Fornebu. The museum opened in April 2016 and moved into its present premises in March 2019. The society also holds its member meetings here.

The museum displays photographs and posters in chronological order, which tell the story of Fornebu’s development from construction to closure: when Fornebu became an airport, the opening, Fornebu during the Second World War, the expansion, Fornebu as a small town, the closure and air accidents. In the museum’s display cases the collection is arranged by theme, with material from the ground services, aircraft models, brochures and props from the airlines, and from the war and military activities.

The museum also has a small book corner with books on aircraft and aviation history, and the society sells books about Fornebu, aviation magazines, cups, plates and postcards. Group visits and private tours can be booked, and the control tower can be visited.
