About the museum
Klæbu bygdemuseum (local history museum) lies on the old farm of Teigen in the lakeside village of Sjøbygda by Selbusjøen. The farm was a resting place for Swedish pilgrims who passed through Tydal and Selbu, and in the 19th century it was a coaching station and a storage place for timber and millstones from Selbu, which were to be transported on to Trondheim. A general store was also run here.
The museum was established on 22 January 1975 by Klæbu municipality. The farmyard consists of seven buildings, most of them built by Ole Olsen Teigen around 1850, and the collection of around 1,800 objects includes household items and tools. Nearby are an old water-powered farm sawmill, a carpentry workshop and a smithy.
Klæbu historielag (local history society) has managed and maintained the museum since 2000 and took over as owner on 1 January 2016. Every year, museum days are held for fourth-graders, an outdoor church service, a Midsummer (St John's Eve) celebration and a family and outdoor day during Culture Week (kulturuka) in Klæbu. In recent years a new boathouse (naust) has been built on the farmyard.
