About the museum
The Krøderbanen opened in 1872 as a narrow-gauge railway between Vikersund and Krøderen. When the Bergen Line opened in 1909, the line was converted to standard gauge and run by NSB until it closed in 1985. Since then the Norsk Jernbaneklubb and Stiftelsen Krøderbanen have run the line as a museum railway, and it is now part of Buskerudmuseene.
Krøderen station is protected as a technical heritage site and has kept its installations from the steam era. The station environment is reminiscent of the 1920s, with a kiosk and outdoor café on operating days.
On operating days, trains with old steam and diesel locomotives and carriages run between Krøderen and Kløftefoss or Snarum. The line also has its own events, including the togranmarkering in August, twilight trains, harvest trains, ghost trains in October and a Christmas train on the first Sunday of Advent. Volunteers in the club run and maintain the line.
