About the museum
Museet Kystens Arv (Heritage of the Coast) lies in Stadsbygd on the Fosen peninsula and is a living boat museum. Here there are two floors of exhibitions on life at sea, boats, people by the sea and boat building, and visitors can see boatbuilders at work. The boatbuilding workshop has built over 280 boats, and the museum maintains the clinker-built boat tradition.
In the main building are the exhibitions “Båt og bærekraft” (Boats and Sustainability) on coastal culture in Central Norway between 1920 and 1960, and “Lofotdrifta fra Trøndelag”, on the people of Trøndelag who took part in the Lofoten fisheries in the 19th century. The boat hall shows boats from the museum's collection together with some loaned boats. The museum also has a café, museum shop and auditorium.
The outdoor area lies close to the shore, with, among other things, a historic rose garden, a boat pool, logs for log construction (laftestokker) and a rebus trail (rebusløype). The whole family can row a trip on the river in the museum's own boats, and nearby there are rock carvings that can be reached on foot. The museum is part of Museene i Sør-Trøndelag (MiST).
