About the museum
The museum was founded in 1828 as Kristiansand Museum and is a state museum. In 1994 it was given the name Agder naturmuseum og botaniske hage, and in 2017 it became part of the University of Agder. The museum builds up and manages scientific collections in botany, zoology and geology.
In the museum building at Gimle farm the main exhibition “Fra istid til nåtid” (“From the Ice Age to the Present”) shows the nature of Agder, alongside a current exhibition. Outside there is a rock exhibition, and the botanic garden is open to everyone at all times, free of charge.
The site also includes a museum shop, a café, an activity room and the greenhouse Glasshuset, which can be rented. Fjellhagen Ljosland in Åseral belongs to the same botanical operation.
