About the museum
Odderøya museumshavn (museum harbour) lies in Nodeviga on Odderøya, right by the centre of Kristiansand. The site is part of Vest-Agder-museet and shows the maritime history of the Sørlandet coast, with an emphasis on boats and life by the sea. The new quay complex and activity house opened in summer 2025.
A floating outdoor exhibition shows plastic boats in bright colours. From the 1950s a considerable plastic-boat industry grew up on the Sørlandet coast, and the boats in the harbour tell of it. Bragdøya kystlag (coastal association) contributes older wooden boats to the exhibition.
In the harbour visitors can borrow a rowing boat and a water viewer (vannkikkert), rent SUP boards, see fish in the saltwater aquarium, and take part in activities such as making bark boats (barkebåter) and folding paper boats. The museum has a summer café and museum shop in “Kabyssen”. Vest-Agder-museet is also building the new VIGA cultural history museum on the island, which is scheduled to open in 2028.
