About the museum
Sjønstå gård was first mentioned in the tax register of 1665. In 1891 Sulitjelma Gruber bought the farm, and it became a hub for ore transport with up to about 300 residents. The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage (Riksantikvaren) listed the farm in 2006. Nordlandsmuseet took over its operation on 1 January 2025.
The farmyard has 22 buildings spread across Øvergården and Nergården. Øvergården is run as a museum, while Nergården is privately owned. The guided tour lasts about 45 minutes, is held in Norwegian and English, and tells the history of the farm from the 17th century until today.
