About the museum
Storeteigen bygdetun is a former cotter's farm (husmannsplass) at Lundanes in Øystese. The starting point is a main house and a workshop from the early 1800s, which were built on the farm. The smithy, the stabbur (storehouse) and the two smoke kitchens (røykstuer) were moved here from other farms in the district between 1978 and 1984, and Storeteigen opened as a visitor site and museum in 1986. The workshop was used to produce furniture, among other things.
The farmstead is owned by Kvam herad (Kvam municipality) and is run by Hardanger og Voss museum.
