About the museum
Tertitten Urskog-Hølandsbanen is a narrow-gauge museum railway at Sørumsand, a short distance from Oslo. Here steam trains run with preserved locomotives and carriages between period station buildings along the old Urskog-Hølandsbanen, which was in regular operation until 1960. Three coal-fired steam locomotives and a number of carriages are preserved and used in the museum’s operations.
The museum is part of MiA – Museene i Akershus, which is responsible for the operation, the maintenance of the line and the buildings, and other equipment. The train operation itself is handled by Urskog-Hølandsbanen Driftsgruppe, a group of volunteers. The collections include locomotives, work machines and carriages, and the photo collection of around 1,800 pictures from the railway’s operating years has been catalogued and published on Digitalt Museum.
The railway runs in the summer and Christmas seasons and on special occasions, and is known for its winter trips with steam trains. The trip runs return between Sørumsand and Fossum station and takes about 75 minutes. In the station building at Sørumsand there is a stationmaster’s office, an exhibition and a museum shop on the ground floor. The museum also receives school and kindergarten groups on special trips and rents out premises and carriages.
