About the museum
The Theta group was founded in May 1940 and was active until the summer of 1942. The group consisted of young people aged between 19 and 22, and its aim was to establish radio contact between the Norwegian authorities in England and the resistance movement in occupied Norway. Headquarters was in a small room in Enhjørningsgården on Bryggen in Bergen. Information about German naval movements along the coast had the highest priority.
On 17 October 1942 the Germans carried out a large-scale raid (storrazzia) on Bryggen, and the headquarters was found. All members were told to travel to England, and two of them were arrested while fleeing. Two of the group's members lost their lives during the war.
In 1981 Riksantikvaren decided that the headquarters should be reconstructed as the room was when it was discovered, with assistance from the surviving members. The room opened to the public in 1982 and is considered probably Norway's smallest museum. The objects have been recreated after the wartime furniture, and the only original item in the room is a coffee table.
The museum is run by Bryggens Venner and gives a sense of how those who fought in secret lived. It has room for 12–15 people at a time.
