About the museum
Tingvatn fornminnepark (archaeological park) lies by county road 43 (fylkesvei 43) in Hægebostad, about two kilometres north of the municipal centre, Birkeland. The area has an Iron Age archaeological site, where visitors can walk on paths between burial mounds and other ancient monuments. The centre is run by Vest-Agder-museet.
In the visitor centre there is an archaeological exhibition on the Early Iron Age, titled “De udødelige” (“The Immortals”). The exhibition focuses on finds from graves and tells the story of the people who lived here many hundreds of years ago. Hægebostad bygdemuseum (local history museum) is open on Sundays during the season.
At the archaeological site you can listen to stories in the Useeum app, which is available in Norwegian, English and German. In the summer there are craft activities for children, guided tours, a café and a shop.
