About the museum
The main building of Ulefos Hovedgaard was built as a summer residence for the Aall family and was completed in 1807. The family used the house as a residence until 2007. Important meetings and gatherings that were significant for Norwegian history took place here. The building is in the Empire style and has a view over Ulefoss and the Telemark Canal.
Today the estate is run as a museum by Telemark Museum. Each room has several historical layers, and one of the rooms highlighted is the king’s room (kongerommet). Visitors receive a guided tour of the house, and the garden around the main building is a destination in its own right, especially during the flowering season. It is also possible to reach the manor by boat via the Telemark Canal.
