About the museum
Bielawska Placówka Muzealna was founded in 2009 within the structures of the Miejska Biblioteka Publiczna in Bielawa, as the result of many years of efforts by the town authorities and cultural organisations. The official opening took place on 28 December 2009 in the hall of the former office building of the “Bielbaw” works at ul. Piastowska 19. On the same day, a Regional Research Department was set up in the library, which runs the museum.
At the end of 2011, in connection with the creation of the Dolnośląski Inkubator Art-Przedsiębiorczości, the museum moved to the building at ul. Piastowska 19b. Most of the collection comes from donations by residents of the town; its nucleus was the memorabilia of the “Bielbaw” works, gathered over many years.
The permanent exhibition presents objects connected with the history of Bielawa from the 19th century onwards: a reconstructed living room and school classroom, equipment from old pharmacies, textile industry memorabilia (including a training loom), old publications and press, folk art, militaria, and objects related to trade, crafts, tourism and sport. The department also maintains an archive of photographs, maps and regional documents, and offers museum lessons.
