About the museum
The Szymbark Education and Regional Promotion Centre is a private venture of the Czapiewski family, located not far from national road no. 20. Its initiator and creator was Daniel Czapiewski, owner of the neighbouring sawmill. The site contains replicas of traditional wooden Kashubian buildings and displays of traditional everyday tools.
The centre tells the story of the Kashubians, of deportees to Siberia and of the Pomeranian resistance movement during the Second World War. Among the exhibits are a hut of deportees brought from Siberia together with an accompanying exhibition, a model of a labour camp, a replica of the bunker of the secret military organisation “Gryf Pomorski” (Pomeranian Griffin), a Scouts’ House (Dom Harcerza), and a Kashubian manor house and church in replica.
In the section devoted to carpentry the “Longest Plank in the World” (Najdłuższa Deska Świata), cut from a 120-year-old Douglas fir, is on show, as well as the Nobel laureate’s table. One of the best-known attractions is the Upside-Down House. There is also a restaurant, an open brewery and a hotel on site; a visit to the most important objects takes about an hour and a half.
