About the museum

The Education and Culture Centre “Glass House” (Szklany Dom) in Ciekoty is a cultural institution of Masłów Commune and a gateway to the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. Its programme relates to Stefan Żeromski, who spent his childhood and youth in Ciekoty (1871–1883). In 1871 his father Wincenty moved into the manor as the new estate manager, and the family lived there for twelve years.

The manor, built in 1753, was completely destroyed in the 20th century. It was reconstructed in 2010 as a small wooden manor house, and its furnishing was completed in 2016, thanks to the work of honorary curator Kazimiera Zapałowa, donors and the commune office. The interiors were arranged in line with historical fact, the writer’s diaries and his literary descriptions. Today it houses a museum dedicated to Żeromski.

The Glass House presents contemporary art, runs educational programmes and classes for seniors, and houses a tourist information point, a souvenir shop and a bicycle rental. Festivals, concerts, rallies and literary meetings take place in Ciekoty.
