About the museum
The Muzeum Siekier w Orzechówce (Axe Museum in Orzechówka) was founded in 2006 by Adolf Kudliński, a farmer and social activist, on his agritourism farm near Bodzentyn in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. He gathered the collection over more than twenty years and then built a special building for it, shaped like a small castle, erected on the site of a former bunker. Kudliński explained his idea of collecting with the words that the axe accompanies a person “from the cradle to the coffin”.
The collection includes axes for felling, chopping, striking sparks and splitting, as well as battle-axes, spears and clubs. The number of exhibits is given differently in different sources: from more than 1,850 to more than 2,500 pieces. The oldest specimen dates from around 1720. The museum also presents old household and farm equipment.
Adolf Kudliński died in October 2020. The farm belongs to the Kudliński family. According to tourist information, the museum can be visited free of charge after prior telephone arrangement.
