About the museum

The Centrum Geoedukacji (Geo-Education Centre) is a facility of the municipal unit Geonatura Kielce, established in 2003 by a resolution of the City Council as the Centrum Geoedukacji Kielce, later Geopark Kielce. Its task is to popularise the geological values of the city, especially the Wietrznia, Kadzielnia and Ślichowice reserves. In 2021 the name was changed to Geonatura Kielce, to avoid a clash of names with the Świętokrzyski Geopark.

The centre stands in the south-eastern part of the Wietrznia reserve at ul. Daleszycka 21. It was designed by the PALK Architekci studio and received the SARP Award of the Year (Nagroda Roku SARP) for the best architectural object built in Poland in 2011. It is adapted to the needs of people with disabilities: there are no stairs, and a lift takes visitors to the second level and to the green roof.

The main attraction is the permanent exhibition “CHRONOS”, set up as an underwater research station on the bed of a sea from about 380 million years ago. Visitors pass through interactive stations and dioramas with models, a geo-laboratory, a virtual cave and grotto, and the time-capsule cinema, where they watch a journey of about ten minutes from the birth of the Earth to the present. On the roof there is the Geologiczny Ogród Doświadczeń (Geological Garden of Experiments), and behind the building there is a playground.
