About the museum
The Kielce Village Museum (Muzeum Wsi Kieleckiej) was established by decision of the Kielce voivode of 21 August 1976, and began independent activity on 1 January 1977. Its task is to collect, protect and make available monuments of folk culture of the Kielce region, with particular attention to folk architecture. The museum includes the branches: the Ethnographic Park in Tokarnia, the Mausoleum of the Martyrology of Polish Villages in Michniów, the Czernikiewicz homestead in Bodzentyn, a Dutch windmill in Szwarszowice and the Laszczyk Manor in Kielce.
The seat of the museum is the Laszczyk Manor at ul. Jana Pawła II 6, on the southern slope of Castle Hill, set back into the grounds behind a wooden fence covered with shingles. It is the last wooden building of this type in the city and one of the most valuable monuments of Kielce. The manor was built at the end of the 18th century on land leased from a canon of Kraków; until the 1970s it was in private hands, and later it housed a health-care facility. In 1988 it was handed over to the Kielce Village Museum for administrative and exhibition purposes.
Thanks to EU funds the building was renovated and the grounds were modernised, and the administrative rooms are now in a newly built building at the back. Since 3 September 2024, until further notice, the manor has been closed to visitors because of conservation works.
