Temporarily closed (expected until 2026-12-31). From 1 September to 31 December 2026 the centre is closed due to modernisation works, during which new exhibition and educational spaces are being created.

About the museum

The initiator of the NBP Money Centre was the President of the National Bank of Poland, Sławomir S. Skrzypek, who died in the Smolensk air disaster. The first conceptual work began in 2008, and in 2011 the NBP Management Board named the institution after him. The architectural design, covering over 2,000 m² in buildings at ul. Świętokrzyska, was implemented from 2014.

The solemn opening took place on 20 April 2016, and the centre was opened to visitors during the Museum Night 2016. It is the first multimedia numismatic museum in Poland, popularising knowledge of the history of money and economics in a modern way. In 2018 a set of coins, trial pieces and banknote designs from the Second Polish Republic, from the permanent exhibition, was inscribed on the Polish National Register of the UNESCO “Memory of the World” Programme. In 2023 part of the exhibition was modernised and rearranged.

The permanent exhibition shows the path from the birth of money in antiquity, through the Middle Ages and the early modern period, to 19th- and 20th-century banking and modern payment systems. Visitors see, among others, Banking Street (Ulica Bankowa), the Authenticity Laboratory, the vault and the numismatist’s cabinet, and since 2024 also a collection of gold coins and bars from the former National Defence Fund (Fundusz Obrony Narodowej). From 1 September to 31 December 2026 the centre is closed for modernisation works.
