About the museum
Fabryka Sztuk is housed in a historic brick building at ul. 30 Stycznia 4. At the end of the 19th century the factory was moved here by the tinsmith Kelch; later it produced, among other things, sanitary equipment. About a hundred years after the factory was founded, culture moved into the old walls.
The institution opened on 22 February 2007 as the Centre for Exhibitions and Regional Culture of the Lower Vistula (Centrum Wystawienniczo-Regionalne Dolnej Wisły). After five years it was renamed Fabryka Sztuk (Art Factory), referring to the industrial past of the building. The complex consists of two buildings linked by a courtyard, modernised with EU funds; it houses two exhibition halls of 208 and 325 m², a conference hall, a room for non-governmental organisations, an art studio and three rooms of the SOWA educational zone, run in cooperation with the Kopernik Science Centre (Centrum Nauki Kopernik).
Since 1 September 2011 Fabryka Sztuk has also managed the 19th-century tenement house at ul. Podmurna 15, renovated as part of the revitalisation of the Old Town. It houses the Kazimierz Zimny Memorial Room, devoted to a native of Tczew and Olympic athletics champion, and temporary exhibitions. The institution organises exhibitions, education and open-air events, supports non-governmental organisations, and collects and stores museum collections related to the history of the town and the region.
