About the museum

Brama Poznania, or the Interaktywne Centrum Historii Ostrowa Tumskiego (Interactive Centre of the History of Ostrów Tumski), tells the story of the cathedral island, where the history of Poznań began. The venue is run by the Poznańskie Centrum Dziedzictwa (Poznań Heritage Centre), a municipal cultural institution. The project was co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund.

The main exhibition leads through four rooms – Gród (Stronghold), Woda (Water), Złoto (Gold) and Witraż (Stained Glass) – and covers the period from the founding of the stronghold in the 10th century to the present day. The history is told in plain language, and multimedia solutions allow visitors to explore interesting threads in more depth. The exhibition design was prepared by the Belgian company Tempora SA, and artists from Poland and abroad, as well as historians, were involved in its creation.

There are two routes to choose from: one for young people and adults, and one for families with children. An audio guide is available in eight language versions. The ticket to the exhibition also entitles you to a free audio walk around Ostrów Tumski within 10 days. From the main hall a glass footbridge leads to the Galeria Śluza (Śluza Gallery), and there is a viewing terrace on the roof of the building.
