About the museum

The Izba Tradycji Ziemi Strzegomskiej (Strzegom Region Tradition Room) is housed in a former Carmelite monastery building from 1720, which is also home to the Centrum Aktywności Społecznej “Karmel” (Karmel Centre for Social Activity), belonging to the Strzegom Centre of Culture. The first museum in Strzegom opened in 1989 in a former Evangelical church at ul. Kościuszki 4; it operated until 1997.

The present room opened on 23 June 2013, during the Strzegom Granite Festival. Many exhibits were donated by private collectors. The most valuable part of the collection is the range of products of the Strzegom porcelain factory in Stanowice, which no longer exists.

The collections also include the largest collection in Poland of copies of the publication “Dla wszystkich” (For Everyone), a 16th-century antiphonary from the Carmelite monastery, the seal of a canon of Wrocław from 1234, minerals, old newspapers and emergency banknotes (notgeld), the first telephone exchange in Strzegom and a teleprinter. The room also hosts photography and painting exhibitions.
