About the museum
The Muzeum Andrzeja Struga, a branch of the Adam Mickiewicz Museum of Literature (Muzeum Literatury im. Adama Mickiewicza), is located in the writer’s real flat, in a tenement house built in 1925–1928 at Aleja Niepodległości and listed as a historic monument. Andrzej Strug, born Tadeusz Gałecki, lived here from 1929 until his death in 1937.
He was a prose writer and journalist, an activist of the PPS (Polish Socialist Party), an officer of the Polish Legions, a senator and, from 1922 to 1925, Grand Master of the Grand National Lodge of Poland. His wife Nelly kept the study, the library, the manuscripts, photographs and personal memorabilia, which can be seen today in the flat.
The flat houses a biographical and literary exhibition on Strug’s prose and journalism and on his role in the political and social life of pre-war Poland; memorabilia linked to his activity in freemasonry are also shown. The museum runs museum lessons for young people, literary evenings and lectures.
