About the museum

The Muzeum Archidiecezji Gnieźnieńskiej (Archdiocesan Museum of Gniezno) is located on Lech Hill, right next to Gniezno Cathedral. It is the successor of the former cathedral treasury, where for centuries the most precious objects used in worship were gathered. They were donated to mark important events or were gifts from distinguished visitors to the primatial church.

The core of the collection consists of chalices, pyxes, monstrances, pax tablets, bishops’ rings, paintings, sculptures and historic textiles. Among the treasures is a 10th-century gold chalice known as the Chalice of St Adalbert (kielich św. Wojciecha).

The museum is part of the Lech Hill visitor route, which includes the cathedral with its crypts, the Drzwi Gnieźnieńskie (Gniezno Doors) and the viewing terrace in the tower. Visitors can buy a ticket for the museum alone or a pass for all the attractions. The Biuro Obsługi Turystycznej i Pielgrzymkowej Wzgórza Lecha (Lech Hill Tourist and Pilgrim Office) is located in the museum building.
