About the museum
The dairy in Królówka was founded in 1888 on the initiative of the parish priest of the time, Father Franciszek Pawlikowski, who wanted to give residents a steady source of income. From 1896 it operated as a dairy company, later as a cooperative, and after the Second World War within the district dairy cooperative. A year after its founding it received 67,000 litres of milk per year, in 1900 206,000 litres, and in 1930 already 716,000 litres. The building, whose construction began in 1902, housed offices in its upper part and the processing plant in its lower part. The dairy produced butter, cream, cheese and buttermilk, and according to surviving documents, butter was sent to the court of Emperor Franz Joseph I.
In 1991 the cooperative handed the building over to the commune of Nowy Wiśnicz. Today it houses the Muzeum Mleczarstwa (Dairy Museum), a branch of the Muzeum Ziemi Wiśnickiej (Wiśnicz Land Museum). In the former processing room, complete machines and equipment for producing dairy products from the 19th century and later have survived, along with glass test tubes and bottles from a hundred years ago and milk centrifuges imported from Vienna. Visitors can also see documents and old photographs recording the work of the cooperative.
