About the museum
The Museum of Horse-Drawn Vehicles was established on the initiative of Father Edward Sobieraj, founder of the Charity and Cultural Centre in Pilaszków, and was solemnly opened on 23 June 2003. The centre, run by a foundation connected with the Church Economic Council, also includes a care home, a restored park and the Museum of the Polish Manor House in a historic manor house. The founder wanted to save from oblivion the old craft of making vehicles and to show younger generations the carriage teams which, after the Second World War, met a fate similar to that of Polish manor houses.
The vehicles were gathered and restored over many years and are displayed in three pavilions a short distance from the manor house. The collection has 52 horse-drawn vehicles of various classes and purposes. Among them are the formal vehicles known as “black” vehicles (karety and powozy: carriages and coaches), everyday vehicles known as “yellow” vehicles (bryczki and linijki: light carts), specialised vehicles such as dorożki (cabs), brek and hunting vehicles, as well as sleighs, a fire wagon, wasąg, półkoszek, sulkies and a gypsy wagon (wóz cygański).
After Father Sobieraj’s death in 2014, the care of the collections changed. Information on the current rules for visiting the museum is not published on the official website, so it is recommended to contact the museum by phone before a visit.
