About the museum

The Museum of the Kraków University of Technology (Politechnika Krakowska) was established by the university senate on 4 June 2004. It is housed in the former detention block of the Austro-Hungarian barracks, dating from around 1878, which was recognised as a historic monument in 2014 and entered in the municipal register of monuments of Kraków.

The collection numbers more than 500 objects: documents, prints, photographs, graphic works, scientific instruments, medals, decorations, university seals, architectural and structural designs, artistic craftwork, sculptures and textiles. Over an area of about 114 m², the museum presents a permanent exhibition on the history of the university, as well as temporary exhibitions devoted to the university’s patron, Tadeusz Kościuszko, and to the heritage of the site.

The museum publishes its own “Biuletyn” (Bulletin), “Zeszyty Historyczne Muzeum PK” (Historical Notebooks of the Museum) and exhibition catalogues, and its collections can be consulted in the museum’s reading room in the library.
