About the museum
The Museum of the University of Economics in Kraków was opened in 2004 and was solemnly inaugurated by the then President Aleksander Kwaśniewski. Initially it was called the Museum of the Academy of Economics in Kraków. It collects souvenirs of the university's history and its predecessors: from the Institute of Commodity Science (Instytut Towaroznawczy) of 1924, through the Academy of Economics (1974–2007), to the present university.
The museum reports directly to the rector, and its activities are supervised by the Museum Office at the rector's chancellery. Since 2015 the museum has been looked after by the historian Dr Tadeusz Filar. In the same year the collection of Kazimierz Gołdas was added to the museum's holdings.
The permanent exhibition “Dzieje krakowskiej Akademii Ekonomicznej” (History of the Kraków Academy of Economics) is located in the UEK Main Building at ul. Rakowicka 27, on the first floor, in room 110. The exhibits include, among others, a wooden sculpture of St John of Nepomuk from the 18th century, a plaque of the Institute of Commodity Science from 1924, the student ID card of Prince Adam Zygmunt Sapieha, a pen of Professor Arnold Boland, a student cap in the university's colours, and an appeal by Rector Władysław Bieda from 1968.
