About the museum
The museum in Morąg was established in 1964 on the initiative of Prof. Emil Adler, a philosopher and Germanist who researched the work of Johann Gottfried Herder, who attended the school in Morąg. It was initially housed in rooms of the town hall. Since 1 January 1976 it has belonged to the Muzeum Warmii i Mazur w Olsztynie (Museum of Warmia and Masuria in Olsztyn).
After the reconstruction of the Dohna Palace in 1975–1985, the museum moved there in 1986. In 2022–2024 the building was thoroughly renovated, and the institution was renamed from the Muzeum im. Johanna Gottfrieda Herdera (Johann Gottfried Herder Museum) to the Muzeum Prus Górnych (Museum of Upper Prussia), which better reflects its character and range of subjects.
The collections include archaeological finds, memorabilia from the times of the Teutonic Order state and Ducal Prussia, materials on the Dohna family and the history of Morąg, Lutheran artefacts, memorabilia from Prussian manor houses, Dutch painting and contemporary art.
