About the museum

The collection of the private museum in Młynary was begun in 1946 by the regional enthusiast Tadeusz Balicki, who saved objects from wartime destruction. From 1956 he made the collection available to visitors. In 1970 it came under the patronage of the Stowarzyszenie Społeczno-Kulturalne “Pojezierze” (Social-Cultural Association “Pojezierze”), and the institution was officially opened as the Izba Pamiątek Historycznych (Historical Memorabilia Room).

After the founder’s death, his daughter Ludwika Balicka kept the collection intact within the family and turned it into a private museum named after him. The collections number about 4,000 exhibits and occupy around 200 m² in a private house at ul. Chopina 1; two rooms were made available by the commune of Młynary.

The collection includes archaeological finds from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Roman period, weapons and militaria, coins, a parchment document from 1462, ethnographic objects (household items, ceramics, farm tools, furniture, textiles), blacksmith and baker’s products, including gingerbread moulds from 1655, and sacred sculpture.
