About the museum

The Muzeum Przyrody w Drozdowie (Nature Museum in Drozdowo) was founded in 1984 on the initiative of Andrzej Chyl, the museum's first director. Until 1995 it was a branch of the Regional Museum in Łomża; it then operated independently, and today it is a unit of Łomża County.

The museum is housed in the historic 19th-century manor house of the Lutosławski family, surrounded by a park of about three hectares in the Narew valley, within the Łomżyński Park Krajobrazowy Doliny Narwi (Narew Valley Landscape Park). The museum also tells the story of the landed gentry and of the links between Roman Dmowski and Drozdowo and the Lutosławski family; Dmowski spent the last months of his life here.

The natural history collections relate mainly to the Łomża region, especially the valleys of the Narew and the Biebrza. They include specimens of birds and mammals, medicinal plants and aquariums with freshwater fish. The museum runs museum lessons and workshops, and outdoor events take place in the park.
