About the museum
The Muzeum Radia Wrocław operates in the building of the former broadcasting station of the Schlesische Funkstunde AG (Silesian Radio Broadcasting), a private station which broadcast from 1924 to 1932. The new building at what is today ul. Karkonoska was put into use in December 1925; the construction was carried out by Telefunken.
The museum was established in 2001 on the original design of Jerzy Rezler, a former sound engineer. More than 300 exhibits have been gathered in it, documenting more than 100 years of radio and communication technologies, coming from gifts by listeners and former employees of Radio Wrocław.
Visitors can see the first radio receivers, historic microphones, measuring equipment, caricatures, personal memorabilia, photographs and documents. A unique item is the 16-track analogue Studer A80 tape recorder, and visitors can also listen to archive broadcasts from the radio's tape library (taśmoteka).
