About the museum
The Alfons Karny Sculpture Museum was established in March 1993 as a biographical museum and is today a branch of the Podlasie Museum in Białystok. It is housed in a historic wooden villa, once the villa of General von Driesen, at ul. Świętojańska 17.
Alfons Karny was born in Białystok but worked mainly in Warsaw, and is regarded as one of the most outstanding representatives of the Warsaw school of sculpture. Most of his works are realistic likenesses of well-known figures, including Mikołaj Kopernik, Ignacy Paderewski, Albert Einstein and Ernest Hemingway.
The museum collects the artist's works and documents his activity. The permanent exhibitions include portraits of great Poles, the sculptor's studio, and old and contemporary art from the artist's collection. The villa also hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and educational activities, including for people with disabilities.

There is no car park or designated parking space for drivers with disabilities at the museum; there are paid parking spaces on the street nearby. The path from the gate to the door is about 10 m long and 70 cm wide. The entrance is 140 cm wide, but one door leaf is narrow, so staff open the second one and help when needed. The ticket counter has a lowered section. A tactile plan hangs at the entrance. The exhibitions are on the ground floor; about 75% of the rooms are accessible to wheelchair users, but some corridors are not. Narrow wooden stairs lead to the upper floor, where a stair-climbing device cannot be used. The ground-floor toilet has handrails on both sides. Assistance dogs are allowed (a certificate and a vaccination record are required). The museum has no hearing-assistance devices.
