About the museum
The Muzeum Śląska Wrocław is located at the Tarczyński Arena Wrocław on Aleja Śląska and tells the story of the Military Sports Club Śląsk Wrocław (Wojskowy Klub Sportowy, WKS), and above all of its football section. The year 1947 is taken as the founding date of WKS, although the club's origins go back a few years earlier and are linked to the military school teams Pionier and Podchorążak. In 1957 WKS Śląsk was founded, which became the most popular club in the city.
The permanent exhibition consists of exhibits and, above all, multimedia material: interviews with former players and coaches, match recordings and presentations of stadiums. The exhibition leads chronologically through the successive stages of the history of the club and of Wrocław: from a club rebuilt on the rubble of the city in 1945–1956, through the road to the top flight, promotion in 1964 and the golden 1970s, to the crisis years of 1992–2008 and the return to the top with the Polish championship title.
Besides the museum itself, a combined ticket is available for a tour of the Tarczyński Arena stadium, and for groups of children and young people an outdoor game, “Stadion Marzeń”, has been prepared.
