About the museum

The Muzeum Geologiczne im. Henryka Teisseyre (Henryk Teisseyre Geological Museum) has operated since June 1981 as a unit of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław. The museum is located at ul. Cybulskiego 30.

The collections number more than 20,000 specimens. They include plant and animal fossils from around the world, rocks of the Sudetes, and geological maps and globes. The exhibition shows, among other things, rocks recording the emergence of an oxygen-rich atmosphere, the first organisms with skeletons from more than 500 million years ago, traces of Permian reptiles from Lower Silesia, and bones and teeth of dinosaurs and cave bears.

The museum runs a rich educational programme: workshops and museum lessons for groups, families and individuals, and the quest “Śladami krasnala Geologa” (Following the Footsteps of the Geologist Gnome). Many exhibits can be touched, which allows visitors to find out for themselves, for example, the hardness of minerals or the properties of rocks.
