About the museum
The Muzeum Ziemi Staszowskiej (Staszów Land Museum) operates as a branch of the Staszowski Ośrodek Kultury (Staszów Cultural Centre) under the name Regionalna Izba Tradycji – Muzeum Ziemi Staszowskiej (Regional Tradition Room – Staszów Land Museum). Its collections consist of souvenirs, objects and documents connected with the history of Staszów and its surroundings, mostly donated by residents; they number about a thousand items.
In 2015 the museum left the damp cellars of a municipal building, where the exhibits were gradually deteriorating, and moved to four rooms in the former building of the Akademickie Ośrodek Kształcenia (Academic Education Centre) at ul. Szkolna. The renovation and adaptation were financed by the town, and at the official opening the history of the museum was presented by the president of the Staszów Cultural Society.
Local coins are a particularly important part of the collection. Separate displays concern local crafts, the Jewish community and the partisan unit “Jędrusie” from the Second World War, and an exhibition of folk art by regional artists complements them.
