About the museum
The Muzeum Teatru Polskiego Radia, also known as the Muzeum Słów i Głosów (Museum of Words and Voices), is probably the only museum in the world devoted to radio plays. It was established on the initiative of Janusz Kukuła, long-time director and chief director of the Polish Radio Theatre, and of Wojciech Ramus, president of the Fundacja Teatr Wyobraźni (Theatre of the Imagination Foundation), which runs the museum.
Work on the exhibition began in 2018, and the concept for its arrangement was prepared by Prof. Marek Chowaniec of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The official opening of the museum took place in 2021. The seat is at ul. Zamkowa in Baranów Sandomierski, near the Renaissance castle.
Visitors learn about the history of radio theatre in Poland, from the time of the first director of the Teatr Wyobraźni, Witold Hulewicz, through the golden years of the Polish Radio Theatre, to the present day. The exhibitions also recall popular radio novels, and visitors can try their hand as sound-effects specialists. The museum also runs lessons and workshops for school and kindergarten groups.
