About the museum
Pacanów, thanks to the adventures of Koziołek Matołek (Matołek the Little Goat), described by Kornel Makuszyński and Marian Walentynowicz, was declared the European Capital of Fairy Tales on 1 June 2003. In 2005 the institution named the European Centre of Fairy Tales Koziołek Matołek in Pacanów was set up. The construction of the modern seat was co-financed, among others, by funds from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and by the Ministry of Culture, the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship self-government and the gmina of Pacanów.
The centre building opened on 24 February 2010. Since then tens of thousands of fairy-tale enthusiasts have visited it each year; in 2015 it was almost 170 thousand people, which made the centre the second most visited children’s attraction in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. A Festiwal Kultury Dziecięcej (Children’s Culture Festival) takes place here every year, and since 2007 meetings with masters of theatre and music and competitions connected with Koziołek Matołek have been organised.
The offer includes the multimedia and interactive exhibition “Bajkowy Świat”, the Mały Teatr (Little Theatre), the cinema “Szkatułka” (Little Box), a magical bookshop and library, the educational park “Akademia Bajki” (Fairy-Tale Academy) with a garden, a bistro and numerous workshops for groups.
