About the museum
The Planetarium in Toruń was ceremonially opened on 17 February 1994, and the first public show took place two days later, on the anniversary of Copernicus’s birth. The premiere show was titled “A jednak się kręci” (“And Yet It Moves”). Over time the classic planetarium with its dome hall expanded its offer, and today it operates as the Centrum Popularyzacji Kosmosu “Planetarium – Toruń” (Space Popularisation Centre “Planetarium – Toruń”).
In 2005 the building opened its first interactive exhibition – the Orbitarium hall, which operated until September 2017. In 2012 the Geodium exhibition joined it; it closed on 3 October 2026. In February 2018 the interactive and multimedia space Baza MARS#17 opened in the place of the Orbitarium.
Since January 2014 shows have been projected in the digital fulldome system across the whole dome, and in January 2023 the previous Zeiss star projector was replaced with a new Zeiss SKYMASTER ZKP4 LED model. The planetarium is open all year round and is one of the most visited planetariums in Europe.
