About the museum
The Władysław Reymont Museum of Literature was founded in 1989 by the self-taught enthusiast Tadeusz Modrzejewski in rented premises in a townhouse at ul. Pankiewicza 1 in the Old Town of Bielsko. He gathered works of Polish literary classics, especially by Władysław Reymont, which he had copied out by hand and illustrated himself, as well as paintings, sculptures and other memorabilia. The museum operated as a private initiative, supported by voluntary donations from visitors.
For years the museum struggled with financial problems and the deteriorating state of the premises, and it was closed several times, including during the pandemic. In December 2023 the Książnica Beskidzka library bought and secured the collections, and the museum suspended its activities. It was announced that the museum would return to its premises at ul. Pankiewicza 1 after the building has been renovated. Tadeusz Modrzejewski died in March 2024.
According to available information, the collection is currently held in the Special Collections Department of the Książnica Beskidzka library. Current rules for viewing the collections should be checked directly with the library.
