About the museum
The Skansen budownictwa puszczańskiego (Open-Air Museum of Forest Architecture) in Granica belongs to the Educational and Museum Centre of the Kampinos National Park, which lies about 40 km from Warsaw. The buildings of the open-air museum form three farmsteads, named after the surnames of the last owners of the residential houses: Widymajer, Wiejcka and Połeć.
The Widymajer and Wiejcka farmsteads are part of a former linear village laid out along the Aleja Trzeciego Tysiąclecia (Third Millennium Avenue). They show the farm of a prosperous and of a moderately prosperous peasant. The Połeć farmstead, known as the Chata Kampinoska (Kampinos Hut), has been set up as the modest farm of a poor man, and stands out for its log frame, whitewashed on the outside.
The open-air museum is visited independently, and a walk takes about 45 minutes. Nearby are the Muzeum Puszczy Kampinoskiej (Kampinos Forest Museum), the educational trail “Skrajem puszczy” (Along the Edge of the Forest) with an observation tower, and a war cemetery from September 1939. The Chata Kampinoska is looked after by the Towarzystwo Kampinoskie (Kampinos Society), which holds workshops there on bread baking and making Easter palms, among other things.
